You can support the goals of a group while, at the same time, recognizing the some methods of achieving those goals may be poorly thought out.

PETA's goal (the ethical treatment of animals) is a good one, and they have every right to protest. But a boycott is a very specific form of protest whereby you stop purchasing a company's product in order to create enough economic pain to cause that company to change whatever practices you disagree with.  Declaring a boycott of a company you don't already patronize and whose products you don't already use isn't a protest, it's an empty, meaningless gesture.

1. I don't support PETA or the boycott I'm simply saying it's not a good objection.

2.A boycott can also about discouraging  other people from buying a product or patronizing a store etc
