Not so much a thing but time spent at the farm with my paternal grandparents...in a rocky childhood, that was always a place of happiness and wonder for me. And though a lot of people thought grandma and grandpa were grumpy and unpleasant to be around...they were two of my favorite people. They are long gone and the farm is gone too. Chopped up into a subdivision and parts absorbed into other farms so there's not even a place to go back to.
The other was the very little time I spent with my maternal grandfather. We lived far apart so it was only about every other year that I saw him...maybe 8 or 10 times in my life after the age of 2...but he was a character and we had a mutual adoration for one another. From playing checkers and croquet to going deep sea fishing, it was always an adventure with him.
I wish my kids could have experienced some of those times.
