My mother pretty much always made Devil's Food cake for me on my birthdays. My name is Steven, but she wanted to make it Stevie when I was little. When I got in trouble, I was called Steven, and that's what stuck. I was a right little shit as a child, but my brother one year younger was the real instigator of trouble. Like taking the wheels off a younger sister's baby buggy to make a coaster "hot rod" to ride down the steep hill that our street dead-ended into. The first hard turn caused them to turn cone-shaped. Those wire wheels weren't meant for anything but straight-line pram rides by a 6 year old girl and her dolly.
