Motive is everything. If every American had 500 firearms but no motive to shoot anyone, very few Americans would be shot. Conversely, if every American had one gun, but they all had a motive to shoot other people, lots and lots of people would be shot. The only time people get shot without a motive is accidentally.

IN WHAT CONTEXT?
Motive only addresses individual cases.
But, when we are talking about firearm violence, be it suicide, domestic violence, accidental, gang, or mass shooting, the common connection is always ease of access to firearms in a long term context.
