FWIW, I hold that human societies lack the necessary resources, political, social, or whatever, to avert disaster in time. It was an interesting species, while it lasted. Maybe future generations will talk about a population bottleneck of a few million, or perhaps another species, better suited to the new climate, will take over our former ecological niche, and we will become the staple of their diet (ignoring bacteria, virii and prions).
