When I was in the Cosst Guard my last couple years - I was leading 3rd class - and had my own room.
During a room inspection - the Warrant doing the inspection told me I needed to " paint the closet door".
(Somebody before me had used tape to put up a poster or two on the door and took off paint when they took their posters when they left.)
So - I went down to the hardware store downtown and bought 3 pints of enamel - red, white and blue.
Then I sketched out then carefully painted in a Union Jack - scaled to perfectly cover the door in question. To finish it off - I stuck a Triumph motorcycle logo sticker in the center. (My favorite flavor of motorcycle).
On the next inspection the Warrant hit the roof - and started making all sorts of threats upon my happiness.
When he was done - I said "You said to " paint the door" - you didn' t specify a color. I took initiative."
The LT that was in charge (who disliked the Warrant) said "You gave the petty officer an order and he complied. If you want specifics - specify".
The Jack stayed up until I left.
