The trouble with role models is that they usually set an impossibly high standard. This is why I’ve decided to become my own role model - once you set the goal of becoming you, that ‘striving upward’ bullshit goes away.

Striving upward is what gives life meaning. It's good to have a lofty ideal.

Depends on the individuals definition of upward compared to what others observe.

I'd describe your's as circular at best. There may be a drain involved.
