Because, even in polytheism, in all of antiquity the deities/god/gods/ mythological characters antiquity was patriarchal. Even the head gods of Egypt and Rome and Greece, all had male top gods.
While polytheism, depending on era or sect, had female angels, they still were not the top deity, but at best tokens.
Most humans worldwide were centered around male kingships, and most humans stupidly thought that brawn and being male was better than being female, and that females were simply icons at best, but for most, fields for men to plant their seed in.
