My points were: don't worry too much about social pressure (shit you hear on the media counts here). Gender norms are kinda dumb. Just treat people with respect, and don't worry.

My point is that the media ( in this case it was NPR) takes the whole gender issue to ridiculous levels.

When you find it necessary to call the pregnant " people" instead of some feminine address as is almost always( but not quite) exclusively female - it becomes ridiculous.
