The NAACP was founded in 1910, though. Back when that was the accepted terminology. It has built an identity and brand with that name. The terminology "colored" shouldn't be used in regular conversation because of its segregationist associations, like, "no coloreds" signs on establishments and water fountains.
I don't know. I'm not black. So, if black people are telling me to not use a term(and they are; arewethereyet isn't pulling that out of her ass, it's a real thing that we're switching to African American, black, and person of color now based on feedback from the African American community on how the term "colored people" is received) then I respect that and listen. It's not a big deal to me and it makes a difference to the tone of the conversation and how we elevate it from the tone of these histories. I don't see why changing the words you use is a problem if it's hurting people.
