Perhaps we should, as a society, support the notion of witches and magic. Just imagine the potential for income that otherwise unemployed or poorly employed people might gain from it. The real trick is to make sure that the most wealthy of society completely buy into the idea because that's where we need to siphon off most of the revenue. Poor people taking advantage of other poor people doesn't help anything, but just imagine if all the rich people spent any significant fraction of their wealth on magical predictions and cures. It would be a windfall. There's opportunity for the lawyers as well, as clients would be required to sign complex legal waivers for any bad side effects they might suffer.
