Well, that's bloody disgusting.
My mum was born in Canada in 1926. Grew up there, coming to Oz in 1946 to marry my dad. A glutton for punishment, mum stayed married to the arsehole for 60 years, when he died. (he had PTSD from WW2, which made him 'difficult')
Mum told me about Trick or Treating when she was little. If people refused to give candy, she and her little friends would do terrible things to them. EG putting a pin into a doorbell so that it just kept ringing and (gasp) smearing soap on peoples' windows. My darling mother died in2019 aged 92, completely lucid.
