Legendary football coach and broadcaster John Madden has died, the NFL said Tuesday night.
Madden, 85, passed away unexpectedly in the morning, according to the league.
BSBIV:
How does someone pass away 'unexpectedly' at the age of 85?
It was a blitz.
I have always like John, but it is like liking your generic teacher. Of course you cant argue his stats when he was a coach, or his knowledge of the game while announcing. I never understood why Chris Berman never became a play by play announcer.
I will never deny that John made sports announcing and the NFL what it is today. But, John never put the spice in the play calling out side of Turducking.
An aside, back in the 1980s, I went to a game at RFK stadium in DC, which Madden announced. I watched him walk from his bus, because he hated flying, surrounded by 6 or 7 DC police, as he walked from the bus, into the stadium. John was big as all F! I kid you not, the cops escorting him, their heads only came up to his shoulders.

No one scores!
I like what Norm McDonald said about cancer. When you die, it is always a tie because the cancer dies with you.
