Not always true. My wife had a Cocka-Poo that could always tell when a foreign substance was in a treat. I'd say it's mostly the emotional behavior of the servants, tbh.
I have a backup plan...peanut butter. Smear a little on top of one their treats and stick the pill in the peanut butter.
I wouldn't try to give my cat a pill unless I had some welding gloves and lots of bandages on hand.
