RE: Without citing the bible, what marks the bible as the one book with God's message?

The way I see it or perhaps as it is, Judaism and Christianity are book-worshipping religions. For the masses, it doesn't matter much what exactly is in them, it just matters that they exist. Especially in the not-so-distant past when most people were illiterate. Like in Christian mass you still have a priest or a pastor read from the Bible and that's a tradition left from the times when people could not read so they were fed with a paragraph or two during the mass. Although it's not that they now know any more about what is inside the Bible, rather they imagine that there must be something extraordinary inside.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
