Well, the largest religions in the world are of Abraham decent and are definitely homophobic, anti gay and equality for women. Even the Dahli Lama call being homosexual sex inappropriate.
That is good enough I think to say that religions are leading the way to homophobia and the suppression of women.
That is not science.
I admit that some Christian sects are or have shifted to a more civilized view but most have a ways to go.
As to personal accountability, any that believe in Jesus and his sacrifice do not believe in it. That would be all Christians.
