Actually, the whole idea of Ukraine becoming a NATO member has been brought up by Bush in his last year in office. Probably under the impression of the war in Georgia at that time. Germany and France instantly protested the idea and there are little indications, their position might have changed in the meantime.
In any case, as long as war is raging there, there's absolutely no hope of Ukraine joining. It's in the treaties, that no country involved in a war may join the alliance. Same as with EU membership. Von der Leyen may have talked about a fast track, but there is no provision for a fast track. Either you fullfil the EU requirements chapter by chapter or you stay out. And Ukraine is very far removed from fullfilling the requirements.
