Hell, I suspect that if we get rid of a lot of the bullshit restrictions Republicans put on voting, Beto wouldn’t have just come very close to defeating Ted Cruz. Bear in mind that Republican ideology’s move rightward is likely to alienate, well, anyone who isn’t a rich straight white cis male, a demographic whose proportion of the population is shrinking. If the seemingly arbitrary rules that just so happened to result in a good-sized swath of the population being disenfranchised are struck down, Texas is probably going to look a lot bluer from now on.
