Anti-abortion activists found staging protests less than 100m from hospitals and GP surgeries will face jail sentences, fines or a combination of both under new legislation.
Safe-access zones will be put in place across all medical facilities able to provide abortions.
Zones measuring 100m will be introduced around all hospitals, all GP practices and Wellwoman or Irish Family Planning Association services.
Recent figures show that one in seven women who tried to access a termination was met with an anti-abortion protest outside their medical facility.
Cabinet ministers will today sign off on new laws that will ban any activity that seeks to influence the decision of women seeking abortions within these zones.
The new laws will cover silent protests and prevent people using praying or holding signs to trying to advise or persuade women not to access abortion services.
This would cover the type of protests that took place outside the National Maternity Hospital where small white crosses and coffins were displayed.
