It's their own thoughts they are interpreting. The episode in the Bible, as art, resists final interpretation and logical resolution. Which (Blake says) proves it's true.
So Mohammed being tortured in Hell is true interpretation of Bible because William Blake painted it. That's certainly frustrating to Muslims if not very bigoted. How awful.
Blake’s watercolor by William Blake show the eternal fate of the Prophet Muhammad and his companion Ali, Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law. Muhammad and Ali are nearly cut in half, only to be restored and forced to endure this bodily torment over and over again.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
