This has brought home how awful the medical system is in the US, I asked for a vasectomy in my mid 30's, it was done about 2 weeks later, cost me nothing except for a day off work. If I had to pay around £1000 I probably wouldn't have done it.

I requested one when I was 22yo and denied because I was 'too young' and, of course, in Kansas.

I managed to get one when I was 23 in Chicago with no hassles. I think it cost $250, but that was back in 1986.
