I think that the Democrats will control both Chambers. Reason is simple, and that is polling is crap these days, and lots of young women are registering to vote, and they will vote Democrat due to the Roe v. Wade issue.
I’m not gonna lie. During the last couple of weeks heading into the election, I was bracing myself. I was telling myself “Don’t worry, as long as the GOP get 53 seats or less, it’ll be very hard for them to hit 60 in 2024.” Then those New Hampshire polls hit showing Bolduc up and I was freaking out because with 54 seats the GOP absolutely did have a pathway to 60 in 2024. Then the midterms happened and… relief is an understatement. I was elated. It would seem you were at least far more correct in your prediction than I was. I didn’t make any actual prediction but I was bracing for the absolute worst.
I underestimated Dobbs. I wanted to see it have a big effect, but all the polls were saying that abortion was low on everybody’s priority list. Those polls did not change until exit polling on Election Day, which showed for the first time, notably in the rust belt states, that abortion was polling at the top of the issues.
The polls were absolutely horrible. In fact I blame polls for preventing a senate win in Wisconsin.
