I suppose a natural god might face extinction pressure. I do suspect that narratives about gods collect attributes based on what's necessary to compete in the religious marketplace. I'm not sure that gods are/would be rational, but they could be - plenty have been described that weren't..too.. but they haven't done well in that religious marketplace I have in mind. Ultimately, I think, it's because we find them less satisfying as conceptual partners in an existential negotiation. In the case of theistic gods they pretty much have to be (or at least be rationalizers). That's included it what it means to be a personal and intervening being.
There's really nothing illogical about a being having desires or inclinations or goals...and I'd challenge the claim that a god worthy of worship is self contradicting. It's just that the faithful have mostly failed to come up with one.
