I'm pretty sure the 6 million dead Jews of the Holocaust strongly disagree with your assessment above. Murdering one innocent person is infinitely evil and requires extreme punishment. It's pretty clear that, for someone who isn't a moral thug, other-worldly punishment is required for mass murderers like Hitler to achieve justice.

We're discussing God as traditionally conceived here. In Islam, we have authentic accounts of the prophet asserting that God is more merciful to us than a mother to her child, and many other similar accounts. So, there a lot of detail about the meaning of benevolence for God in traditional belief systems.
