There's a big Pakistani and Bengali community.
Obviously football (soccer) is a big deal here just like it is all over England.
The main band to come out of the vague area I live is probably Oasis. Also Joy Division, Inspiral Carpets and all that other old Indie music I'm not massively into but will listen to and enjoy sometimes.
I've personally always loved a lot of American alternative type culture, especially when I was younger, the skateboarding culture, graffiti, American rock music. A lot of people here emulate that sort of stuff, obviously we have rock night clubs, graffiti artists and skateboarding in Manchester.
I've been going indoor climbing a lot recently and going inside the climbing place is like going into a whole different culture than the surrounding area. Everyone calling each other "Dude" and using Americanised terms. Climbing culture seems quite close to hippy culture to me. It's full of posh nice people which is good, the surrounding area is notorious for chavs (not very nice people)
I don't skateboard, but I did learn how to ride a longboard, that was fun.
