Is there another type of afterlife waiting for you?
These days I'm rarely shocked by the horrors of British history, but i think one of the wickedest things I've learned is that at one point, criminals who were slated for execution had their body parts separated (then the parts might be burned or buried separately) because there was a religious doctrine that if your body was not whole after death, you couldn't go to heaven. So there was a sick freak somewhere who thought "Ya know, killing them isn't punishment enough, no, we gotta extend the punishment to the afterlife."
British society had a quite some brutal customs born of medieval superstition that persisted well into the 19th century, some into as late as early 20th century customs which we have now customarily seldomly acknowledged much less speak of, possibly lest we face the brutal fact of just how little separated the allegedly enlightened Anglo-Saxon “race” form those they presume to civilize in the “darker” parts of the world.
