Based on what I read in the papers, US separation of church and state is honoured more in the break than the observance.

Huh? What do you mean by the very first sentence?

I mean I don’t experience it firsthand (I’m not an American) and that there seem to be a whole lot of Americans paying lip service to the ‘wall of separation’ as they gleefully engage in dismantling it.
