I'd say the Santos type states in the US are much worse.
Fortunately, many of the drag panic laws etc have failed, but the atmosphere is hideous.
Secular modern nations should be better than this.
I notice in most cases its religion to blame for this stuff.
The big issue in the UK is getting gender affirming care. An adult wanting to transition will wait years on the NHS before even an assessment or first appointment.
