It's not true of all atheists, though.
What I think we atheists have to admit is that some very smart people are not atheists. Just recently I was reading about Kurt Gödel, for example. He was a smart person. And he believed in a life after the death of the body, in which we will be reunited with our loved ones. He had an elaborate argument as to why he thought this is the case.
Won't happen. Although there might be a form of existence after death of the physical body.
I also find it extremely unlikely.
My only point was that some very smart people are not atheists.
