Being the nutty Orwell fan that I am, i'm quite aware that even though Orwell was educated at the same place as 14 of our Government ministers, Eton, that is the only thing that ties him to Conservatism. He was a Democratic Socialist and states his support for Socialism in his works.
Conservatives wrongly try to claim him as one of them, because he spent a lot of time attacking Communism. They don't seem to fathom that you can be left wing and not be an authoritarian. They should all read Homage to Catalonia and they too might learn something, but then again, conservatives generally dont like to part with cash.
