I have, however, seen LOADS of videos that bring up how hostile YouTube can be when it comes to… darker content, from demonetization to age restriction to just plain getting their channels nuked. And if they don’t bring it up directly, the effects come up when the creators have to use words like “un-alived” because their random-ass “advertiser-friendly” rules make words like “suicide” taboo. One creator I follow, SpookyRice, makes recap videos about extreme horror movies, and I can remember that he once made a video specifically about issues he’s had with YouTube’s content policies. His videos are censored, but he still sometimes runs afoul of the Powers That Be. In this particular video, he apparently talked about how a character in a film killed himself and used the s-word. They removed it, and somehow decided that Spooky himself was suicidal. The video is down, but I remember it. Odds are, if you find any currently active Horror Youtubers, they’ve had to deal with similar issues.
And why? Because, after Logan Paul decided to make his suicide forest video, they decided to clamp down on anything they deem not “advertiser-friendly.” On a related note, I’ve seen Cannibal Holocaust on Peacock, and even that has ads on it. And it’s the uncensored version, complete with the scene where they dismember a live (and it’s 100% real; I can even see its still-beating heart) turtle. None of the YouTubers I follow have ever shown anything that graphic, but they get more issues with advertisers somehow.
I understand how frustrating it can be.
I guess it can become hard to post certain videos. People who make chemistry videos have had a lot of problems with Youtube.
I think "Cody's Lab" said that that they almost deleted his channel or were going to suspend him.
I think Nurdrage has also said something similar.
One of my videos was about making chloroform. I think it was reported by someone since the video was there for a year. They said that they take off 1 point and if I have 2 more violations, they would delete my channel. The violation was going to be on my account for 1 year.
After one year, I reuploaded the video and it has been there for years.
Louis Rossmann has said his channel was demonetized but he doesn't care. He makes a lot of videos about motherboard repair and also fighting for your rights to repair your home appliances, cars, refrigerators, microwaves (Right to Repair).
Owen Morgan (Telltale) is an ex-jehova's witness, he is an atheist, he makes religion related videos, videos about televangelists and all sorts of coo-coo people.
I think he said he has to be careful to not say certain words.
I’m sure that some people are ok with advertizing on a video that is about Right to Repair. Tuxedo is one of them. They make highly configurable laptops.
I’m sure that Youtube doesn’t need to demonetize or outright ban videos.
Some VP at Youtube is not right in the head.
If advertizers are bothered by killings, rapes, decapitations in movies, it could mean that they are christian. It is usually that segment of the population that wants family friendly stuff and they want to force it on everyone.
There was a WKRP in Cincinnati episode about this. A certain priest that represents a bunch of churches was putting pressure on each radio station to not air certain music since they don’t like the lyrics.
If WKRP refuses, they would tell the advertisers that they were not going to buy their products.
At first, WKRP accepted the demands. The next wave of demands included banning John Lennon’s Imagine.
It contains the words “imagine there is no heaven. No hell below us.”
The priest interpreted that to mean No heaven? No Hell? Then you must mean that there is no god either!
