Yeah, apatheism is totally a cop-out if you ask me. I tend to do it myself at times, but its an easy way for atheists to eschew the "atheism" moniker and the baggage that has been added to it... but its totally a cop out.
Agnostic atheism and "apatheism" are essentially the same thing, one cannot know the answer to the question, so there's probably little more thought given, at least that's how it has been for me. One could argue true atheism is not "apatheism" as one is not apathetic about the question, but is absolutely sure about the question.
