I've never been a Trump fan. At all. Last time, he was a ridiculous clown but he was so incompetent that he didn't get very much accomplished besides playing lots of golf and pass an oversized tax cut for billionaires. This time? This time he's getting way more done and that scares me.
I'm transgender and Trump spent millions on campaign ads calling me a pedophile, a rapist, a groomer, a threat to women and worse. I'm post-op and I seem to pass fairly well, but I get the feeling that this doesn't really make a difference to the haters. Not to go too Godwin's Law here, but I worry because that kind of dehumanizing language is the same kind of dehumanizing language that preceded the holocaust. And what plans will he have for me in the future?
And I don't doubt for a second that I'm the only one who has a reason to be scared. Muslims are realizing that he hates them (how could they forget?). Hispanic people have faced his wrath. Protesters in general have been labeled his enemy. Now even Canadians are hated by the current regime. What groups do you think genuinely have a reason to be scared? I know trans people are at risk, but the rest of the LGB community isn't exactly safe, either; it's only a matter of time before someone brings up a case that challenges Obergefell v Hodges and same sex marriage will be gone in most states. If they get really crazy, they'll try and get Lawrence v Texas and that scares me even more.
I could probably transfer my job from a very red state, Oklahoma, to a much more blue state, Illinois. I really don't want to move if I don't have to, but..... I don't know if it's really safe to stay here. At the same time, I don't know if Illinois would be safe enough for me. I mean, if there's a federal order to round us up or something, state politicians are very limited on what they can do to protect me. But even then, where do I go? I'm middle aged, only speak English and I don't have a lot as far as marketable skills so immigrating would be a challenge. If I could, I would gladly go to Canada today.
So, any thoughts on this?
