You sound similar to me, Rift Zone. While I never had any desire to believe, I was exposed to Catholicism at an early age and rejected it outright. Like you, I had an early interest in science, particularly astronomy. The attempted religious indoctrination just confused me. I didn't understand why they were feeding me this nonsense. It wasn't until I was around 12 or so before I realized most adults actually believed the Bible literally and it shocked me to the core.
You and I are proof that some people are just wired to be atheists. There is no way in hell that a 5-year-old is using critical thinking skills or logic to evaluate religious stories. Somehow, I was an atheist before I realized there was no Santa Clause.
