Well, the question assumes two things:
1 You have a specific definition of what nothing is.
2 There could be a state of affairs where nothing could exist.
If either 1 or 2 cannot be satisfied, then the question is incoherent, so can't be answered.
If both 1 and 2 can be satisfied, then my answer would be, 'I don't know and I don't think anyone else knows. Maybe we'll find out one day.'
