While it it's commonly held that troops can disobey illegal orders, much as it's held that killing in self defense is legal, you will be charged, arrested, and potentially prosecuted.
We were in Basic instructed that we have a positive duty to reject illegal orders and report them up the chain.
We were never instructed that doing so would mean a bunch of bullshit and perhaps a prison term all the same.
