To me, the best anime is The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1986). But then again it's the only anime series I watched, and I watched it as a kid. It mystified me, it freaked me out, and it was great. Only later did I watch the 1939 movie, which seemed lame and abridged in comparison.
The only other anime TV show that I watched was Attack on Titan, which was interesting, but I only watched one or two episodes.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
