First how can he equate homosexuality with pedophilia, they are two different mental conditions. One is the attraction of the same sex, the other is attraction to a prepubescent human. A person can be afflicted with both but they cannot be the cause of each other. It's not like straight men go, well I'm tired of adult women, time to go hit up the elementary school.
The church people knew they could use their power as a trusting person to fulfill their homo/pedo desires. I can only bet it has been going on for years and years. Perhaps "witches" spoke out against it, we really don't know how long the church has been a bastion of pedophilia.
Bottom line. These are non-issues anyways. Sexual preference has no place in law books or political discourse, its a way of keeping the talk on stupid social issues, and not really what is causing this country to fail.
