The problem with #6 is that any politician seriously considering cutting the military budget will be met with claims of "He doesn't support the troops!" "He's cutting the pay of our hard working and brave soldiers!" "He wants our well-armed enemies to attack us and our troops won't have good weapons to defend us with!" "He's a traitor, hang him for treason!" It would be political suicide to suggest cutting the bloated military budget and spending that money on something everyone could use, like health care. And the loudest calls will be coming from the conservatives who love supporting the troops as long as they're not gay, and supporting the military-industrial complex.
