Yeah, when comparing the side by side history of the neighboring countries to the Roman empire, you can see one of the reasons Rome was so successful. Most of its neighbors were either in the bronze or stone age while Rome was clearly Iron age. An even mediocrely trained army wearing Iron armor has a better chance at surviving against a highly trained army in bronze armor.
