It was the church’s pattern of child deaths that prompted the Oregon Legislature to remove spiratual treatment as a defense for homicide charges.

So they see a problem, and their "solution" was to just exempt them from negligent homicide as long as they were praying while their children died under their care. Why is it only god's will that children consistently die at that one church, and not most others? Maybe god doesn't like these people any more than we do.

I can IMAGINE acting like I was ordained by a putative gawd to save a sick child by some arcane means. But that is IMAGINATION. That poor kid may not have had a chance in the first place, but the stupidity/ignorance/religious belief just compounds that imagination. I can't support the death penalty but the simple fact is that prison sentences mean nothing to this type of Christian. The bible has already told them that they'll face persecution for their beliefs so they'll see jail time as validation of the rightness of their actions and martyrdom for their faith.

My personal solution would be to psych ward them and not release them until fully rehabilitated, including the reformation of their faith.

I don't recall if this particular detail but IIRC, one of them has a sister who went to prison for....wait for it....killing her child in withholding medical care. If that doesn't make an impression, I doubt much else will.
