And then on top of all these statistics, there are a huge amount of rapes that go unreported. RAINN estimates it to be over 50%. There are varying numbers depending on where you look, but it is always a staggeringly huge number.

If it is unreported, there is nothing the law can do about it.
And if they report it long after, how are they going to prove it?

They can't, which is why rape is different than other crimes. Someone steals something from you, you can report it a bit later and be like "the thing is missing"

If someone gets murdered...and it isn't reported, they are still murdered.


But if someone is raped, the crime can be undone apparently.
