As I always understood it (and I could be wrong) the reasons "players" got so much "hate" was because they romanced women until they slept with them - then dropped them like a bad habit.
Women, on the other hand, seem to have to deal with people calling them "sluts" if they sleep with guys they aren't dating seriously or if they sleep with too many different guys in a short span of time. Doubly so if they do it irresponsibly (unsafe sex) and with strangers.
