When does it adequately explain ANYTHING?
Good questions! Though complicated. For one thing, "faith" by itself is like most Christian movies: sickeningly stupid. I consider faith trust in something other than oneself, and the only reasonable object of that faith is the Christian God. It is necessary to explain why most people still persist in believing in God despite every "reasonable" objection. There is something in us that needs God, and I am not arrogant enough to believe my ancestors and the rest of the world is so ignorant. I think there is something to it.
Adequately explaining something I am not so sure. I tend to think reason does not adequately explain everything either, but perhaps if we find a way to use both reason and the faith that I just expressed, I think we can come up with something that works.
Why is the only reasonable object of faith the christian god? It's one of the worst, and as characters go, it's not even consistent. People still believe in god because of millennia of religious indoctrination, so people get brainwashed into believing.
