An older game is The Killing Floor. It's team-based mutant survival. I have more than 200 hours sunk into it. It's mindless fun, plus there's a big modding community. Load times can get very length on modded maps, though.
For an RPG, I recommend Dragon Age: Origins. That game can run on near any pc, and it's amazing. There's a lot of character interaction, and the choices you make actually affect the story. Plus, there's the Chantry (similar to Christianity) to laugh at and insult, if you feel like it.
