It depends where the school is different counties and schools have different policies on it. When I was in school I took RS GCSE and still had to do the extra lessons of RE because the policy was all students have to do RE.. Even the ones doing RS...
Also sometimes they put it under another name or mix it with a subject in like 'Personal learning' 'Citizenship' or whatever other misleading name they give it.
