Hen gives birth to chick without egg!

A Sri Lanka hen has given birth to a chick without an egg, in a new twist on the age-old question of whether the chicken or the egg came first.

Well, egg-bearing animals were around long before the first birds; the egg came first.

The chick is fully formed and healthy, although the mother has died.
Evolution in action ?

Given that the mother died giving birth to it, it not only has no survival advantage, but it is probably a hindrance. It will not catch on.
