Godschild Wrote:I have a question, since it is necessary that Christ be who He claims to be for anyone to be a true Christian, how is it you would give up all that He offers and just quit believing, actually how is that even possible? That's actually a very fair question.
I thought it was impossible as well. I would go through periods where my faith was extremely low, but I always blamed myself for having a degree of disbelief, as in, not fully being able to trust God with everything in my life. Never did I go through a period where I called it a day and never came back.. Until the start of this year.
What made me cross the line and never be able to see Christianity in the same way is primarily the lack of evidence for the Biblical Jesus. I don't know if you saw my thread about the Historical Hercules at all, but what I was showing there was a) Jesus doesn't compare to what we can read about Hercules from secular sources and, more interestingly, b) you're almost forced to accept that a Historical Hercules lived if we say that the evidence for Jesus is enough to accept him as a real person. So I guess I find it rather odd that no one else had something to say about Jesus.
For me it's always been about the truth at the end of the day. People always think that theists are afraid of death and hence why they believe. To that I used to say if God exists then it's out of my control whether I live forever or not. But because there is a lack of reason to think the Son of God walked amongst us I can't even begin to put faith in the Bible.
