I and Plato disagree with your last. Depending on your definition of free.

None can be free of the city. Plato's city was laws and rules.

If you were free for instance, who would make your shoes is the way Plato put it.

If we wish to be as free as we can be, then we automatically un-free ourselves in that we take on the responsibility to insure that all share that same level of freedom.
