Because it takes a particular type of stupidity to refuse medical treatment when it is available and that is particular to some types of Christianity (such as Christian Science). There are quite a few elements that have to come together for such case to make the news and those are all present in predominantly Christian countries.
Yes, I understand some Christian denominations have little regard for what scripture truly teaches and it makes them standout. However there is no difference between them and parents that are not Christians when they also refuse to get help for a sick child irregardless of what they believe.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
